South Pacific fans, it's finally happening! The 1949 Broadway musical is about to have it's first fully staged New York City revival since it originally appeared in 1949. Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theatre will be the venue. Performances are are scheduled to begin on March 1st 2008 with the opening scheduled for April 3rd 2008. The Revival at the Vivian Beaumont will close on June 22nd 2008.



This classic musical, considered by many to be the best musical ever written, has won nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Composer and Lyricist, and Best Author. It also won a Pulitzer Prize in 1950 for Drama. The play is based upon several short stories from the book "Tales of the South Pacific" by James Michener. The music and lyrics are by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II with book by Hammerstein and Joshua Logan.

The original Broadway musical opened in 1949 and closed in 1954 and ran for 1,925 performances. The musical includes many wonderful well known songs which include; "Some Enchanted Evening", "Bali Ha'i","Younger Than Springtime",and "A Wonderful Guy".

The Vivian Beaumont Theatre cast includes Kelli O'Hara as Nelli Forbush, the baritone Paulo Szot as Emile de Becque, Matthew Morrison at Lt. Cable, Danny Burstein as Luther Billis, and Loretta Ablas Sayre as Bloody Mary. The play will be directed by Bartlett Sher with musical direction by Ted Sperling.
