Wicked The Musical

"The Untold Story of Oz"

Wicked The Musical opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City on October 30, 2003. The stars of the original Broadway Cast include Kristin Chenoweth, as Glinda and Idina Menzel, as Elphaba. Joel Grey played The Wizard. Wicked features original music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and libretto by Winnie Holzman. It is directed by Joe Mantello.

The story revolves around the two witches, Glinda, the Good Witch of The North and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of The West. It is based on the the popular novel written by Gregory Maguire entitled: Wicked:The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of The West. It takes us back to a time when the witches were young college friends and gives us an incite as to how they became the characters we are all familiar with, both, from the 1939 film, and Frank Baum's children's book:"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz".

Wicked has won three Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Book and Outstanding Lyrics. It has also won a Grammy Award for Best Cast Album. The musical has been so popular that in it's first year it grossed over $56 million dollars.
